Heath Ledger (1979-2008)

It's one of those moments where you can't really say anything more than "wow." If you can say anything at all.

I'd imagine that everyone here knows that I'm quite possibly the biggest Joker fan in the world, so it goes without saying that I'm disappointed to learn of Heath Ledger's tragic passing. However, beyond simply losing the actor who - from what has been seen so far - has given the best performance of the character to date, we have lost a fantastic talent and someone who seems, by all accounts, to have been more than just a decent person.

There's nothing more appropriate to say other than that this is a sad day for Hollywood, and a sad day for me personally as I liked Heath Ledger before he was the Joker.

Addendum: Harry Knowles' post about this tragedy pretty much sums up my feelings right now

Unbelievably upsetting. Words cannot even express.

His family has asked everyone not to speculate. Don't assume suicide, it may have been something worse and more careless. Like a bad drug interaction or allergy to one of the sleeping pills given.

Actually, it occurs to me that I didn't even remember posting anything about suicide. When I wrote this posting, the immediate idea was that he had committed suicide.

Once the medication was identified as sleeping pills, my belief immediately changed to unfortunate accident.

Throughout the filming of The Dark Knight, in every interview given, Ledger stated that he had been getting very little sleep and had been taking Ambien to help.

While it's still speculation, I think his passing was the result of an unfortunate accidental overdose. That makes this tragedy all the more heartbreaking, as it reinforces the old adage that "the good die young."
